Amendment 38 to the FMP for the Groundfish of the Gulf of Alaska Management Area
NOAA Fisheries publishes a proposed rule that would implement through December 31, 1998, allocations of Pacific cod and pollock for processing by the inshore and offshore components in the Gulf of Alaska and pollock for processing by the inshore and offshore components in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area. It would also continue the Western Alaska Community Development Quota Program. These provisions are contained in proposed Amendment 40 to the Fishery Management Plan for Groundfish of the Gulf of Alaska and proposed Amendment 38 to the FMP for the Groundfish Fishery of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Area, which the North Pacific Fishery Management Council has submitted to NOAA Fisheries for review and approval under the Magnuson Fishery Conservation and Management Act (Magnuson Act).
If approved, these amendments would continue measures that were contained in Amendments 18 and 23 to the GOA and BSAI FMPs, respectively. The proposed rule is intended to promote management and conservation of groundfish, enhance stability in the fisheries, and further the goals and objectives contained in the FMPs that govern these fisheries.
