Framework 14: Modifications to Spanish Mackerel Catch Limits in the Gulf of America
Summary
Framework 14 to the Gulf and South Atlantic Coastal Migratory Pelagic (CMP) Fishery Management Plan and the proposed rule would adjust the Gulf Spanish mackerel catch limits and accountability measure. Specifically, CMP Framework 14 and the proposed rule would:
• Reduce the stock annual catch limit from 11.3 million pounds to 9.63 million pounds, and
• Modify the in-season closure accountability measure to a post season monitoring accountability measure.
The need for CMP Framework 14 is to update existing Gulf Spanish mackerel catch limits and management measures based on the best scientific information available for managing Gulf Spanish mackerel and to achieve optimum yield, in accordance with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.
