Main Hawaiian Islands Deep 7 Bottomfish Annual Catch Limit and Accountability Measures for 2025-2027
Summary
NOAA Fisheries announces an annual catch limit of 493,000 pounds for the main Hawaiian Islands Deep 7 bottomfish, effective May 21, 2026.
This ACL applies to fishing years 2025–2026 and 2026–2027. Each fishing year begins September 1 and ends August 31 the following year.
We are maintaining the current in-season and post-season accountability measures for this fishery:
- If NOAA Fisheries projects that the annual catch limit will be reached, we will close federal waters to Deep 7 bottomfish fishing for the remainder of that fishing year.
- If the annual catch limit is exceeded during a fishing year, we will reduce the annual catch limit by the overage amount for the following fishing year.
We do not anticipate the fishery will reach the annual catch limit, based on catch and effort from recent years.
These efforts will help keep fish stocks healthy and support a strong, stable future for America’s fishermen.
