Modifications to Size Limit and Catch Limits for Gulf Lane Snapper
Summary
These framework actions under the Fishery Management Plan for the Reef Fish Resources of the Gulf (Reef Fish FMP) would increase the recreational and commercial size limit for lane snapper from 8-inch total length (TL) to 10-inch TL in the Gulf of America (Gulf) and increase the stock annual catch limit from 1,088,873 pounds (lb) whole weight (ww) to 1,304,917 lb ww in an effort to slow harvest, reduce the risk of overfishing, and extend the season. The size limit framework was approved for review and implementation at the Gulf Council's April 2025 meeting and the catch limit framework was approved for review and implementation at the Council's April 2026 meeting. These regulations are based on the latest scientific information, including the 2023 and 2026 interim analyses of the SEDAR 49 lane snapper stock assessment, and the recommendations of the Council's Scientific and Statistical Committee.
