Summary

In a response to a petition submitted by the Center for Biological Diversity and Defend Them All Foundation, NOAA Fisheries announces a proposed rule to list two distinct population segments of tope shark (Galeorhinus galeus) as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act:

  • Southern Africa DPS
  • Southwest Atlantic DPS

We are also announcing our determination that listing the following four distinct population segments of the tope shark under the ESA is not warranted:

  • Northeast Atlantic DPS
  • Northeast Pacific DPS
  • Southeast Pacific DPS
  • Southwest Pacific DPS
