Proposed Listings and 12-month Determinations for Tope Sharks under the Endangered Species Act
Summary
In a response to a petition submitted by the Center for Biological Diversity and Defend Them All Foundation, NOAA Fisheries announces a proposed rule to list two distinct population segments of tope shark (Galeorhinus galeus) as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act:
- Southern Africa DPS
- Southwest Atlantic DPS
We are also announcing our determination that listing the following four distinct population segments of the tope shark under the ESA is not warranted:
- Northeast Atlantic DPS
- Northeast Pacific DPS
- Southeast Pacific DPS
- Southwest Pacific DPS
