Permits and Licenses Issued in Alaska

Over half of all federally managed fishery resources in the United States are harvested from Federal waters off Alaska in commercial, sport, and subsistence fisheries. The Alaska Region partners with the North Pacific Fishery Management Council (Council), the State of Alaska (State), the International Pacific Halibut Commission, and other Federal agencies and international entities to develop policies for fishery resources off Alaska. The Alaska Region uses a variety of management tools promulgated in regulations at 50 CFR Part 679, Part 680 and Part 300 to improve sustainability of fish stocks, fisheries and fisheries communities, including issuance of fishery permits, licenses, and quota under catch share programs and other limited access systems.
