North Pacific Observer Program Training Schedule

Observer Training to become a certified North Pacific observer consists of a comprehensive three-week program held in Seattle. The curriculum includes safety while at sea, sampling methodologies, species identification, and data documentation requirements. Please see below for dates, training type, and location information.

Notes

  • ALL prior observers are required to attend both a 2-day annual AND 1-day water safety to earn their annual deployment endorsement prior to their first deployment for the 2022 fishing year.

  • A 1-day focused training (formally known as a 2-day tutorial) can be added to the schedule to follow any 1-day briefing as needed. Please make requests within 5 business days of the class start date.

  • A 2-day fixed gear lead level 2 class can be added to the schedule on an as needed basis. Please request class dates at least 10 business days in advance.
