North Pacific Observer Program Training Schedule

Observer Training to become a certified North Pacific observer consists of a comprehensive three-week program held in Seattle. The curriculum includes safety while at sea, sampling methodologies, species identification, and data documentation requirements. Please see below for dates, training type, and location information.

Notes

  • A 2-day tutorial can be added to any 1-day on an as needed basis. Please request a 2-day tutorial at least 5 business days prior to the associated 1-day briefing.

  • A 2-day fixed gear lead level 2 class can be added to the schedule on an as needed basis. Please request class dates at least 10 business days in advance.

*Class will meet for 2 hours on December 21 to review the class expectations and verify that trainees have access to the Observer Training System so that they can complete their pre-class reading assignment. The first full day of class will be on Thursday, December 23. There will be no class on the observed Christmas (December 24) and New Year’s (December 31) Holidays.

*ALL prior observers are required to attend both a 2-day annual AND 1-day water safety to earn their annual deployment endorsement prior to their first deployment for the 2022 fishing year.
