NOAA Fisheries announces preliminary fishery harvest estimates from the 2024 non-Tribal directed commercial Pacific halibut fishery's second fishing period, along with an updated estimate for the first fishing period. The total allocation for this fishery is 249,338 pounds (113 mt), net weight (all weights are shown in net weight).
Preliminary Harvest Estimate
The preliminary harvest and remaining allocation estimates below are based on commercial fisheries landings information as of July 18, including fish ticket data.
- Fishing period #1 (June 25–27): 93,152 pounds (42.3 mt)
- Fishing period #2 (July 9–11): 89,626 pounds (40.7 mt)
- An estimated 27%, or 66,560 pounds (30.2 mt) remain of the non-Tribal directed commercial fishery allocation.
Upcoming Fishing Period
NOAA Fisheries will make an announcement regarding the availability of a third fishing period as soon as practicable. In order to give fishery participants sufficient time for planning and preparation, a third fishing period, if warranted, would occur no sooner than 3 weeks after the second fishing period. Fishing period limits would be modified and would be set equal among all vessel size classes.
