The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is opening directed fishing for Pacific cod by catcher vessels using trawl gear in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands Management Area (BSAI), effective 1200 hrs, Alaska local time (A.l.t.), April 15, 2011, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.
This action is necessary to fully use the B season allowance of the 2011 Pacific cod total allowable catch allocated to catcher vessels using trawl gear in the BSAI. Other closures remain in full force and effect.
