Due to an expected increase in fishing vessel effort, NMFS notifies fisherman of sources of information related to the MODU KULLUK tow incident that occurred on December 28, 2012. The MODU KULLUK was refloated on the evening of January 6, 2013, and towed to an anchorage in the head of Kuliuda Bay. The MODU KULLUK is expected to be moved from that location to more permanent anchorage in Kodiak or Seattle.
The Coast Guard Captain of the Port, Southwest Alaska, has established a 1 NM radius Safety Zone for the MODU KULLUK. Any mariners intending on transiting in the vicinity of or within 5 NM of the MODU KULLUK?s position should contact the USCGC ALEX HALEY on VHF/FM channel 16.
