NMFS Announces Atka Mackerel Fishery Dates for the Harvest Limit Area Fisheries in Area 542 and Area 543 of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is announcing the Atka mackerel fishery dates for the harvest limit area (HLA) fisheries in the Central Aleutian District (area 542) and Western Aleutian District (area 543), according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NOAA Fisheries.

The directed fishery in the HLA in area 542 by the Amendment 80 cooperative vessels authorized to participate in the first HLA fishery in area 542, opens effective 1200 hrs, A.l.t., February 22, 2010. The HLA fishery in area 542 will remain open until 1200 hrs, A.l.t., March 8, 2010.

The directed fishery in the HLA in area 543 by the Amendment 80 cooperative vessels authorized to participate in the second HLA fishery in area 543, opens effective 1200 hrs, A.l.t., March 18, 2010. The HLA fishery in area 543 will remain open until 1200 hrs, A.l.t., March 25, 2010.

The directed fishery in the HLA in area 543 by the Amendment 80 limited access vessels authorized to participate in the first HLA fishery in area 543, opens effective 1200 hrs, A.l.t., February 21, 2010. The HLA fishery in area 543 will remain open until 1200 hrs, A.l.t., February 28, 2010.

The directed fishery in the HLA in area 542 by the trawl limited access vessel authorized to participate in the HLA fishery in area 542, opens effective 1200 hrs, A.l.t., March 18, 2010. The HLA fishery in area 542 will remain open until 1200 hrs, A.l.t., March 31, 2010.

This action is necessary to fully use the 2010 A season HLA limits established for the vessels participating in the Amendment 80 cooperative, Amendment 80 limited access, and trawl limited access fisheries in area 542 and area 543 and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.25(a)(1)(i), (a)(2)(i)(C), and (a)(2)(iii)(D).

After the effective date of this closure, the maximum retainable amounts at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f) apply at any time during a trip.
