The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is announcing that 1,000 metric tons (mt) of the Aleutian Islands Catcher Vessel Harvest Set-Aside were landed at Aleutian Islands shoreplants before February 28, in the Aleutian Islands subarea of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI), according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS. An Aleutian Islands shoreplant is a processing facility that is physically located on land west of 170° W. longitude within the State of Alaska.
The 2019 Bering Sea Trawl Catcher Vessel A-Season Sector Limitation (50 CFR 679.20(a)(7)(viii)(E)(1)) of 21,388 mt will apply until March 21, 2019, and the Aleutian Islands Catcher Vessel Harvest Set Aside (50 CFR 679.20(a)(7)(viii)(E)(2)) of 5,000 mt will apply until fully harvested or March 15, 2019.
This action is necessary to comply with the Aleutian Islands Pacific Cod Catcher Vessel
Harvest Set-Aside Program in the Aleutian Islands subarea of the BSAI and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.20(a)(7)(viii)(E)(1) and (2). This action does not affect Community Development Quota fisheries.
