The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is opening directed fishing for Pacific cod by vessels using jig gear in the Central Regulatory Area of the Gulf of Alaska (GOA), effective 1200 hours, Alaska local time (A.l.t.), March 21, 2016, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is necessary to fully use the A season allowance of the 2016 total allowable catch of Pacific cod specified for vessels using jig gear in the Central Regulatory Area of the GOA. Other closures remain in full force and effect.
