The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting directed fishing for northern rockfish in the Western Regulatory Area (between 159 degrees and 170 degrees W. longitude) of the Gulf of Alaska (GOA), effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, September 21, 2017, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.
This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the 2018 total allowable catch of northern rockfish in the Western Regulatory Area of the GOA and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.20(d)(1)(iii).
While this closure remains in effect, the maximum retainable amounts at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f) apply at any time during a trip.
