IB 20-38: NMFS Prohibits Directed Fishing for Yellowfin Sole in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) by Vessels Participating in the BSAI Trawl Limited Access Sector Fishery

Notice of a fishery management action.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting directed fishing for yellowfin sole in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) by vessels participating in the BSAI trawl limited access sector fishery, effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, May 15, 2020, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.                     

This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the 2020 allocation of yellowfin sole total allowable catch for vessels participating in the BSAI trawl limited access sector fishery in the BSAI and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.20(d)(1)(iii).

While this closure is effective, the maximum retainable amounts at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f) apply at any time during a trip.
