The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is prohibiting directed fishing for yellowfin sole in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) by vessels participating in the BSAI trawl limited access fishery, effective 1200 hrs, Alaska local time, May 18, 2014, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the 2014 Pacific halibut bycatch allowance specified for the vessels participating in the BSAI trawl limited access yellowfin sole fishery, and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.21(e)(7)(v).

After the effective date of this closure, the maximum retainable amounts at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f) apply at any time during a trip.
