Brendan Turley, Ph.D.
I work on NOAA's Gulf of Mexico Integrated Ecosystem Assessment Program. My research is primarily focused on the ecosystem effects of red tide on the continental shelf off the Gulf coast of Florida. I work closely with commercial and recreational fishermen in southwest Florida on a collaborative monitoring project to track red tide and identify areas of hypoxia (low dissolved oxygen). In addition to data collected by our fishermen partners, I also integrate research cruise data into environmental bulletins that are distributed to stakeholders including fishermen and the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council highlighting changing conditions like hypoxia. Complementing this work, I am also actively engaged with research to determine how commercially important species respond to stressors like red tide and hypoxia.
See some of my work on Google Scholar and Researchgate. Feel free to contact me because I am always looking for potential collaborations.
