Emily Salonia

Emily focuses on environmental DNA sampling and laboratory processing.

Emily is an eDNA Molecular Associate at the Milford Laboratory. In this role she performs field collection of eDNA samples and laboratory processing of the eDNA samples. These eDNA samples are sequenced with metabarcoding, and the resulting data helps provide insight into fish community composition. 

Emily is passionate about marine conservation and monitoring. Her research interests also include deep-sea biodiversity and phylogenetics.  Prior to joining the Milford Lab, Emily earned her Master’s degree in Marine Science from Nova Southeastern University. Her thesis research focused on integrative systematics of Zoanthids and her research combined phylogenetics and histology to create comprehensive species descriptions of deep-sea zoanthid species. She also performed field sampling for water quality monitoring of the Southern Florida Reef Tracts as a Graduate Research Assistant at Nova Southeastern University.
