Professional History

Jacob (Jack) grew up in Wickford, RI and he graduated from the University of Rhode Island with his bachelor's degrees in Fisheries Science and Marine Affairs. While at URI, Jack worked on projects related to trawl gear design in the Northeast that mostly focused on Sea Turtle bycatch avoidance. In 2014, he began working as a fisheries observer on Groundfish and Scallop vessels in the Northeast, and also took trips observing on Halibut longline vessels fishing under the Northwest Fisheries Organization in Newfoundland. After leaving observing in 2016, he moved into a training role with the Observer Program, teaching new observers the skills they would need to succeed in the field. Jack joined the Cooperative Research Branch in 2019 as a Field Technician and is based out of Narragansett, RI.
