Jessica (Jessie) Beck

Fisheries Biologist

Jessie Beck coordinates seabird research at Alaska Fisheries Science Center. Her projects focus on understanding of the extent and impact of seabird bycatch in Alaska fisheries; using seabird bycatch and genetic methods to inform our understanding of ecology and conservation; and incorporating seabird data into fisheries management. In 2023, Jessie and her collaborators at NOAA and the non-profit Oikonos Ecosystem Knowledge received the Presidential Migratory Bird Federal Stewardship Award. Jessie received her Masters from the University of California Santa Cruz, and previously studied seabird ecology and fisheries bycatch issues across the North Pacific, California, Hawaiʻi, and Chile.
