Katrina S. Munsterman, Ph.D.

Background

Katrina is a fisheries scientist with Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission and the Northwest Fisheries Science Center. Prior to joining NWFSC in January 2025, she researched fish and fisher behavior in small-scale reef fisheries in the Pacific and Caribbean. She completed her doctorate degree at University of Michigan as a NMFS-Sea Grant Fellow in Population and Ecosystem Dynamics, and master's and bachelor's degrees at University of California, Santa Barbara.

Current Research

As a Research Spatial Analyst with PSMFC and NWFSC, Katrina is studying the interactions between fisher and fish populations following marine spatial closures. She is applying her knowledge of social ecological systems and behavior to investigate the downstream effects (economic, ecological, etc.) of fisher displacement in West Coast fisheries.
