Kelsey Martin, Ph.D.

Kelsey Martin is a Fishery Biologist at the Southeast Fisheries Science Center located in Pascagoula, MS. She has a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi. She also has a B.S. in Marine Science with a minor in Applied Mathematics and a M.S. in Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies from Coastal Carolina University. Between undergraduate and graduate school, she worked as an intern at the Bimini Biological Field Station Foundation in Bimini, Bahamas and then as a Fisheries Observer for Alaskan Observers Inc. During her Ph.D., she was a NOAA Center for Coastal and Marine Ecosystems scholar and won an award for best oral presentation at the biennial Educational Partnership Program conference. After graduating with her Ph.D. in 2022, she worked as a NOAA contractor for the Office and Science and Technology, where she maintained the code for the Fisheries Economics of the U.S. (FEUS) Report. She then joined the Gulf and Caribbean Reef Fish Branch in July, 2024. Her primary role includes developing indices for federally managed species from video survey data collected in the Gulf of America. She has several publications ranging in subjects from shark movement ecology to the importance of artificial reefs for managed species. View Kelsey's ORCID profile
