Kiara is a marine ecologist and social scientist currently working as a subcontractor supporting the Northeast Fisheries Science Center. Her work focuses on the human dimensions of fisheries and marine development, including producing monitoring guidelines to better understand the socio-economic impacts of marine development on fisheries and fishing communities. She earned a B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of New Haven in 2020 and an M.S. in Marine Sciences, with a concentration in Biological Oceanography, from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez in 2024.
Her previous experience includes supporting an ecological monitoring program in the bioluminescent bay in Fajardo, Puerto Rico; contributing to ecosystem-based fisheries management research in the U.S. Caribbean; and surveying the impacts of hurricanes and sargassum influxes on local communities and the fishing industry in Puerto Rico. Her research background also includes studying successional dynamics and diversity patterns on patch reefs in The Bahamas.
