Michael J. Asaro, Ph.D.
Mike began as Acting Risk Assessment and Mitigation Branch Chief in March 2026, overseeing field research and advanced modeling to inform management of the risks to protected species and to provide solutions to keep commercial fisheries sustainable. Mike previously worked as a Research Economist at NEFSC and has held leadership positions at the Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office and the Office of Protected Resources, where he served as Senior Advisor to the Assistant Administrator. Mike was born and raised in a commercial fishing family in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
