Background

Patricia has a PhD and an MSc in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics, UK. From 2008 to 2009 she was a Sustainability Science Fellow with Harvard University Kennedy School of Government Sustainability Science Program. In 2010, Patricia was selected to participate in the NOAA Leadership Competencies Development Program (LCDP) and continues to engage with aspiring leaders at NOAA through the NOAA LCDP Coaching Cadre. For the last 5 years, she has served on the New England Fisheries Management Council's Scientific and Statistical Committee. She is also the lead on the Voices from the Fisheries National Oral History Project as well an active participant on numerous ICES Working Groups (WGMARS/WGNARS).

Research

Patricia's research began with a focus on collaborative resource management and the role that fishermen and fishing communities play in managing environmentally and socially sustainable fisheries. She has written extensively on emerging fisheries organizations as well as on the value of the relationship between fishermen (social capital). More recently, Patricia has broadened her interest to examine some of these questions in the context of regional food systems. Some questions she is currently considering and writing about are: What do we do with the fish that we catch in our region? Where does it go? How can we build resilient fisheries and fishing communities while strengthening our regional food systems? For recent publications please check her out on Researchgate.com
