Research Fisheries Biologist

Sean is a member of our Ecosystem Dynamics and Assessment Branch working on ecosystem modeling and integrated ecosystem assessments (IEAs). He started in the Ecosystem Surveys Branch as an at-sea biological technician working on our various surveys.  He received his Masters degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Conservation from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and received his Ph.D. in Marine Science and Technology from SMAST.  His dissertation was on developing an open-source version in R of the popular Ecopath with Ecosim modeling software which he also extended to add functionality for management strategy evaluations.  Sean has served on multiple regional, national, and international working groups.  He is currently a member of the New England Fisheries Management Council's Ecosystem-based fisheries management plan development team and the national EBFM working group.  He is also the northeast representative on the NOAA National IEA program.
