Shandell Brunson

Biological Sciences Technician

Shandell Brunson is a biological sciences technician with the Marine Turtle Biology and Assessment Program. Shandell volunteered with NOAA's Marine Turtle Program as an undergraduate student, particularly with strandings, necropsies, and rehabilitative care. The experience led to her position as NOAA's sea turtle stranding coordinator for Hawaiʻi and the Pacific Islands region. Overall, she helps with coordination of sea turtle strandings and collaboration with our partners throughout the state. With live stranded turtles, our goal is rehabilitation and release. We are also able to gain a wealth of information from performing post-mortem examinations, which includes collecting samples and identifying current and potential threats to these endangered species.
