Sophie Brager

Sophie Brager earned a B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she minored in Marine Science and Geographic Information Science. Sophie completed a senior honors thesis, “Growing With the Flow: Interactions Between Exposure, Currents, and Intertidal Oyster Reef Growth,” which focused on the relationship between physical ocean conditions and coastal ecosystem development.

She currently works as a Fisheries Observer with NOAA, where she collects biological data aboard commercial fishing vessels in the Northeast. Sophie has additional field and research experience spanning coastal geomorphology fieldwork in Morehead City, NC, sedimentology research in Death Valley, and geospatial research in Chapel Hill, NC. During her time at Chapel Hill she gained scuba and commercially drone licenses. Sophie’s work reflects a strong interest in applied marine science, combining field biology, geospatial analysis, and environmental monitoring to better understand the interactions between ocean systems and human activity.
