How do you engage students in your programming? How do you spur their curiosity and get them asking questions about their experience in your programs? Using local phenomena can spark interest and get students excited about the content they’ll be learning and be used to check their understanding. Join the NOAA Environmental Science Training Center, Red Clay Consolidated School District, and the Delaware Department of Education for an active, hands-on day exploring phenomena-based learning and how it can support Next Generation Science Standards. This daylong workshop is free and intended for non-formal educators who work with K-12 students. (Note: Workshop also being run February 19 in Washington, D.C.; choose the location that’s best for you!)
Workshop Objectives
- Learn the basics of phenomena-based learning and how it supports NGSS three-dimensional learning, student inquiry, and curiosity
- Experience classroom and outdoor learning activities that model a phenomena-based learning approach
- Develop a local, program-relevant, phenomena-based learning activity to incorporate into one of your current or developing programs
