In an effort to be responsive to industry questions about harassment, NOAA Fisheries is hosting a voluntary, virtual workshop to help answer common questions about harassment and sexual assault/sexual harassment and to further support observers in the field. Topics will include:
- What constitutes harassment
- How to communicate safety-related concerns on a particular vessel
- How NOAA's Office of Law Enforcement plans to follow up on reports
The Northeast Fisheries Observer Program and NOAA OLE strive to open lines of communication in order to create a safety culture, where both observers and fishermen are respected and heard. All commercial fishing industry members are welcome. Please take advantage of this open discussion to provide us with feedback.
Workshop sessions are scheduled on three different dates to offer flexibility and maximize attendance, but each will have the same 30-minute panel presentation followed by discussion. Registration is encouraged for our planning purposes, but not required. Slides will be posted here after January 26, 2023.
