October Atlantic Shark Identification Workshop

If this is your first workshop, you must attend in person. If you have already attended an in-person workshop and need to recertify, you can choose between in-person and online workshops.

Online Recertification

You will need your most recent workshop certificate. Shark dealers and their proxies are required to provide the email address, name, shark dealer number, and business phone number that they provided at the in-person workshop. Also, participants will not be able to successfully complete the assessment at the end of the course without the shark identification key that was provided at the in-person workshop.

Requirements

All federally-permitted shark dealers must attend this workshop and obtain a workshop certificate prior to renewing their shark dealer permit. Shark dealers may send someone else (a proxy) to a workshop. If a dealer sends a proxy, an individual from each place of business which first receives sharks under the dealer’s permit must attend the workshop.
A proxy must be: 

• Someone who is currently employed by the business authorized to receive sharks under the dealer’s permit.
• Someone who identifies, weighs, and/or receives offloaded fish.
• Someone involved in filling out dealer reports.

Certificates (or copies) must be: 

1. Renewed every three years
2. Submitted with permit renewal applications.
3. Kept at each place of business which first receives sharks under a dealer's permit.
4. Kept in trucks, or other conveyances of shark products, which are extensions of a dealer's place of business.

3. Documentation from the permit holder acknowledging that the proxy is attending the workshop on behalf of the permit holder.

New Permit Applicants

2. Completed Participant Registration Form. 

New Dealer Permit Applicants

If you are attending the workshop to obtain a new shark dealer permit, you must be either: 

• The sole proprietor of a company.
• A corporate officer on record of an incorporated (Inc.) or limited liability company (LLC).
