On April 13, 2026, NOAA Fisheries published a Notice of Intent (NOI) in the Federal Register, announcing its intent to prepare a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) to consider the identification of Aquaculture Opportunity Areas (AOAs) in Alaska state waters and to initiate the formal public scoping period. The NOI initiates a 45-day public comment period.
As part of this public scoping period, NOAA Fisheries will be holding public listening sessions that invite the public to provide comments on preliminary alternatives, potential issues and concerns, and any reasonable additional alternatives.
