The NOAA Restoration Center provides federal financial and technical assistance to habitat restoration projects in the Great Lakes. These projects support NOAA's mission to help create productive and sustainable fisheries, improve the recovery and conservation of protected resources, and promote healthy ecosystems and resilient communities. NOAA seeks to support a wide range of habitat restoration efforts in the Great Lakes, including projects located in Areas of Concern. These projects improve fish passage, clean up debris, restore coastal wetlands and shorelines—with funds provided by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
NOAA recognizes that habitat restoration is a multi-faceted effort involving feasibility studies, project design, engineering services, permitting, construction, monitoring, and education and outreach and provides support for all these activities.
