An informed public is integral to the protection and recovery of protected species. To address public disturbance of sea turtles in Hawaii, PIRO PRD supports Malama na Honu to disseminate information and work to reduce and manage human interactions with basking sea turtles at Laniakea beach, Oahu.
Project description: To disseminate information, increase local awareness, and promote/encourage NMFS responsible viewing guidelines focusing on the green turtle basking beach at Laniakea, Oahu
Project collaborators: Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center(PIFSC), Marine Turtle Research Program(MTRP), United States Fish and Wild Life Services(USFWS), Department of Land and Natural resources(DLNR)
