The gulf of mexico data atlas
Summarized data exported from Oracle 11g database and stored on GOM Data Atlas webserver (ncddc.noaa.gov/rdn/data-atlas) or ftp server or similar for viewing and / or retrieval by the general public.
Although the landings data are comprehensive and represent a near-census of all the shrimp landings in the Gulf of Mexico, Interviews are opportunistic and represent a varying percent of the total offshore trips for various ports along the Gulf of Mexico. In some ports, the cooperation by the fishermen and interview opportunities are high and a relatively large percentage of the trips are interviewed (80 to 90%). In other areas, especially along the lengthy bayous in Louisiana, the opportunities are much more limited and the percentages are often between 5 to 10% of the offshore trips.
The data represented here is a ten (10) year avarage catch by grouped statistical zone and grouped depth zone.
Statistical zones are grouoed 1-9, 10-12, 13-17 and 18-21 comprise the statistical groups. The data are also segmented by four (4) grouped depthzones. These are Inshore, 0-10 fathoms, 10-30 fathoms and >30 fathoms. The data are averaged over ten years.
Data is completed yearly upon receipt of data from states or port agents.
