Economic valuation surveys are conducted to assess the benefits that stakeholders and/or the general public obtain from goods and services associated with the marine environment. Examples of goods or services can inlcude protected species, marine protected areas, ecosystem services, recreational fisheries, etc...
Valuation estimates derived from surveys can be used in cost-benefit and other regulatory analyses and to inform policy evaluation and discussion. Valuation survey frameworks can be developed to facilitate theoretical and methodological advances in applied economics.
