Summary

Description

The Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP) Site Register system is a robust, centralized, database driven, and web accessible application used to facilitate the collection and management of site characteristic and fishing activity data for all recreational fishing sites on the U.S. Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts.

System benefits include: consolidation and standardization of previously separate, state managed site lists; enforcement and streamlining of work flow, quality assurance, and auditing of data; improvement of data quality and accessibility.

The Site Register provides frames for MRIP intercept surveys that collect data used to estimate recreational angler catch.

Title: Site Register System
Short Name: Site Register System
Status: In Work
Abstract:

Purpose:

The Site Register serves two primary purposes:

1. A tool for federal, state, and contractor personnel to collect and manage site characteristic and fishing activity data for all recreational fishing sites on the U.S. Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts.

2. A tool for federal personnel to generate survey frames for use in the MRIP Intercept Survey. Frames consist of site "clusters" (groups of fishing site locations) that are then assigned to survey personnel who conduct interviews at the assigned fishing sites. Clusters are generated based on:

a. the type of fishing being conducted (mode) at each site,

b. the volume of fishing being conducted (pressure) at each site, and

c. the drive times between sites.

Notes:

This metadata record is intended to provide current, summary information on this system. As the system continues to evolve, each production release of this system will have a child metadata record within this parent record (see "Child Items" below). This metadata record will be updated over time to reflect any major changes to the system. Minor changes and release specific information will be documented in the children, release specific metadata records.

For general information on the project or the program that funds it, please see the metadata record link that appears under the "Related Items" section below.
