Title: Narrative for US Virgin islands DFW/NMFS Cooperative Fishery Statistics Program
Short Name: TIP Caribbean - USVI
Status: In Work
Abstract:

Bio-statistical sampling in the U.S. Virgin Islands as of 1989 has been done under the auspices of the Virgin Islands DFW/NMFS Cooperative Fishery Statistics Program study II. This year marked the consolidation of the Federal and Territorial data collection programs. Port agents will obtain information from fishermen based on their voluntary cooperation. Port agents will have equivalent workloads in St. Thomas/St. John and in St. Croix. Biological data pertaining to spiny lobster and finfish, particularly reef fishes caught in and around the U.S. Virgin Islands will be obtained, along with catch and effort information. The transfer of these data to authorized user groups is facilitated by the Trip Interview Data Entry Program (TIP).

Purpose:

Its purpose is to (along with landings reports) in describing the commercial fisheries of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The program provides for monitoring the effectiveness of the Spiny Lobster FMP and the shallow water reef fish FMP as well as several others.

Notes:

Procedures vary slightly from TIP so the USVI is listed separately.
