There is a journal article in published at PeerJ based upon this dataset.
Bright AJ, Cameron C, Miller MW. (2015) Enhanced susceptibility to predation in corals of compromised condition. PeerJ 3 e1239 https dx.doi.org 10.7717 peerj.1239.
The snail, Coralliophila abbreviata, is a common generalist corallivore and can be a major contributor to Caribbean acroporid tissue mortality. Considering the imperiled status of Acropora palmata and A. cervicornis, understanding the interactions of factors contributing to acroporid tissue loss can contribute to enhanced conservation strategies. This data set examined variation in prey choice of C. abbreviata based on host-origin, prey condition, and potential social interaction using paired choice assay experiments with A. cervicornis prey sourced from a field nursery. Choice assays were conducted adjacent to the nursery in flow-through y-maze boxes mounted on cinder blocks. Choice treatments compared preference for a healthy fragment versues a diseased fragment, or a mechanically damaged fragment, or a fragment with immediate snail predation. In the last type of choice assay, snails were presented a healthy coral fragment versus a solitary snail with no coral. Preference of the target snail was scored by travelling down the y-maze toward one of the two pairwise choices offered.
To determine if corallivorous snails display a preference for coral prey with disease or other compromised condition
