      <lineage-statement>Laboratory feeding and perceived risk: Two fish were introduced into each experimental tank, positioned adjacent to a predator tank, and exposed for 2 minutes to 2 risk treatments: predator absence (control) or predator presence (risk). Feeding behavior was then observed for 18 min.
Intrinsic growth: Length-growth rates were calculated for 84 individuals of each species over a 4 wk period.
The depth distributions of English sole, Pacific halibut and northern rock sole were quantified using a beam trawl with 2 m plumb-staff and 3 mm cod end mesh at Holiday Beach, a juvenile flatfish nursery at Kodiak Island. A total of 52 tows were made during the months of July and August from 2005 to 2009.</lineage-statement>
