Over the past 50 years there has been an explosion in scientific interest, research effort, and information gathered on the geologic sedimentary character of the continental margin of the United States. Data and information from thousands of publications have greatly increased our scientific understanding of the geologic origins of the margin surface but rarely have those data been combined and integrated. This publication is the first release of the Pacific coast data from the usSEABED database. The report contains a compilation of published and unpublished sediment texture and other geologic data about the sea floor from diverse sources. usSEABED is an innovative database system developed to unify assorted data, with the data processed by the dbSEABED system. Examples of maps displaying attributes such as grain size and sediment color are included. This database contains information that is a scientific foundation for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Sea floor Mapping and Benthic Habitats project and the Marine Aggregate Resources and Processes assessment project, and will be useful to the marine science community for other studies of the Pacific coast continental margin.
Point coverage of known sediment samples in the HMPR-110-2004-02 survey area extracted from theUSGS usSEABED database. These data are intended for science researchers, students, policymakers, and the general public. The data can be used with geographic information systems (GIS) software to display geologic and oceanographic information.
Contributors to the construction of this dataset are Jane A. Reid (USGS)Chris Jenkins (University of Colorado), Kelly Halimeda Kilbourne (USGS),Mark Zimmermann (NMFS), Carolynn Box (USGS), Tara Kneeshaw (USGS) andMichael E. Field (USGS).

Accuracy
Accuracy of each attribute is dependent on accuracy of lineage data.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy
Horizontal positional accuracy is dependent on source accuracy and may vary from 0.005km (differential GPS) from more recent source surveys to 1 to 2 km based on radar, Loran, or dead reckoning in older surveys. Users should use their own criteria to evaluate locations of these data.
Completeness Report
Data presented here represent known lab-based textural, statistical, carbonate, and organic carbon data for the defined polygon. Other data available but not presented here include estimations of various geophysical parameters from these data, plus memberships to various fuzzysets, such textural, compositional, geophysical, and geotechnical parameters from linguistic data
Conceptual Consistency
Point features present. Each data point has a unique identifier (SiteName) with corresponding attributes attached, including latitude and longitude in decimal degrees.
