48035 ENOW_Ocean_Economy_Industry_Sector Data Set Published / External 37227 Economics Project Completed 2015 Economics: National Ocean Watch (ENOW) contains annual time-series data for about 400 coastal counties, 30 coastal states, and the nation, derived from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Bureau of Economic Analysis. It describes six economic sectors that depend on the oceans and Great Lakes and measures four economic indicators: Establishments, Employment, Wages, and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). ENOW organizes economic data in ways that focus directly on economic activity dependent on the oceans and Great Lakes. 10157 This data complies with the Information Quality Act directive from the Office of Management and Budget. With the release of the 2012 ENOW data, gross domestic product (GDP) for the ocean economy was updated for the entire time series to reflect the rebenchmarking of gross domestic product (GDP) for the entire U.S. economy. The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) periodically revises the GDP data to better reflect the evolving nature of the U.S. economy. To ensure the quality of the data, we checked that all data was present for the ENOW defined geography, verified and formatted data types, ensured that suppressed data were flagged as -9999, and normalized dollar figures into real numbers.
