The mosaic image contained in this file is comprised of several RGB images that are collected by the CHARTS system. Individual images have been rectified and mosaiced into boxes that extend approximately 5 km along shore. An example file name is "2005_2007_NCMP_MA_002_RGB.tif". This file name convention is based on the year, project, area name, box number, and product type.

The data were collected to obtain the existing conditions of the beach and near shore. However, depths were not attained in many areas due to water clarity.

The imagery covered the required survey area with minimal gaps in data coverage.
The elevation data used in the rectification of these images was tested against ground truth data. At these locations the lidar data matched within 0.20 meters, and different flight line data agreed within 0.20 meters.

The images used to generate this mosaic were collected with the CHARTS surveys system, which is owned by the naval Oceanographic Office (NAVO) and operated through contract. The system collects topographic lidar data at 20kHz and hydrographic lidar data at 3kHz. A CASI-1500 hyperspectral line scanner is integrated with the system, as well as an RGB camera that collects imagery at 1Hz. Aircraft position, velocity and acceleration information are collected through a combination of Novatel and POS A/V equipment. Raw data are collected and transferred to the office for downloading and processing in SHOALS GCS software. GPS data are processed using POSPac software and the results are combined with the lidar data using the SHOALS GCS software. The 1Hz imagery, associated aircraft position/orientation information, and lidar elevation data are extracted from their native formats using pfmChartsImage, a program authored by NAVO. The final rectification and mosaicking of the images is performed using a program authored by the University of Southern Mississippi.
