Pacific Islands, Tutuila, American Samoa, IKONOS data, 2002

IKONOS imagery was purchased to support the Pacific Islands

Geographic Information System (GIS) project and National

Ocean Service's (NOS) coral mapping activities. One-meter

panchromatic and four-meter multi-spectral data were

purchased for each study area.

The Pacific Islands Geographic Information System (GIS) project

is a multiyear initiative designed to increase the use of GIS and

related spatial technology in the coastal resource management

programs of the Territories of American Samoa and Guam, the

Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), and the

State of Hawaii. The project will focus on personnel, training,

equipment, software, data, and applications. Where appropriate,

other related activities in the region will be incorporated into

the effort.

This image was produced from six

different IKONOS Imagery/Image swath(s) dated; 20010101, 20010101, 20010101, 20011107, 20011202, and 20011202.

The initial image product is

enhanced for land features. A secondary product will be provided that

includes enhanced land and water features.

Due to License restrictions this data set is only available for the

following agencies, American Samoa Government, U.S. Fish and Wildlife

Service, American Samoa Community College, NOAA, National Park Service.

American Samoa Power Authority, American Samoa Communications Authority,

U.S. Geological Survey, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and

Oregon State University.

Users must assume responsibility to determine the usability of these

data.

(TIFF, JPEG, 8mm tape).

One copy can be made for backup purposes.

Make the imagery available to its consultants, agents, and

subcontractors for permitted use.

Modify the imagery through manipulation techniques and/or the

addition of data and make copies for internal use.

Distribute derived products (vector layers, land cover

classification maps, benthic habitat maps).

Post a derived or degraded product to an Internet site with the

following credit Includes material copyright Space Imaging LLC,

or www.spaceimaging.com and notify the SI Web Master.

Imagery may be processed and printed as a poster for a

professional meeting or public hearing.

Up to 500 copies of a poster can be printed for free distribution

as a public education product.

Portions of images can be provided as non-manipulatable (bitmap)

files to the media for publication.

Derived products such as vector layers and maps are not subject

to SI license restrictions and may be freely distributed to the

public.

Vectors may be digitized on screen or from a print.

IKONOS image with vector overlay can be printed and displayed as

a map.

The customer cannot copy or reproduce images other than as

consistent with the permitted use. Cannot sell, liscence,

transfer, or disclose the products or use them in any manner not

authorized by the agreement. Cannot alter or remove any copyright

notice or proprietary legend in or on the products.

60 ground control points were used to determine the circular

error (CE) at a 90% confidence level. For Pacific Islands, Tutuila,

American Samoa, IKONOS data, 2002 the

circular error is 2.7 meters for the Panchromatic data set.

Terrain correction adjusted the water height to equal the

true ellipsoid height of the water (sea level).

Compliance with the accuracy standard for the reprocessed imagery was ensured

by the placement of photo identifiable ground control points.

Tests for logical consistency indicate that all row and

column positions in the selected latitude/longitude

window contain data.
