This delivery contains the result of a lidar study over the Pelekand Watershed in Hawai. The deliverables of this project include the classified lidar point cloud. The dataset was processed within LP360 and Terrasolid. The general tiling scheme for the DEM grids and the lidar data is made of 15 tiles of 3'000 x 3'000 m. The lidar is stored in LAS 1.4 PDRF6. The elevations are in meters.
Watershed analysis
This data was collected in NAD83(PA11) ellipsoid heights. NGS Geoid models may be applied by the Digital Coast Data Access Viewer or in the Digital Coast bulk download site. It should be noted that as of 2018, no NGS Geoid model provides the orthometric datum for Hawaii (local mean sea level). The difference is expected to be spatially variable and is unknown except at the tide gauges.

The Data Access Viewer (DAV) allows a user to search for and download elevation, imagery, and land cover data for the coastal U.S. and its territories. The data, hosted by the NOAA Office for Coastal Management, can be customized and requested for free download through a checkout interface. An email provides a link to the customized data, while the original data set is available through a link within the viewer.

Ground check points were surveyed on the hardest and flatest surfaces available. Due to the remote location of the area of interest, hard, flat surfaces like roads were not always available. The relationship between surveyed and lidar points was analyzed in order to determine the elevation difference and root square mean error (RMSEz) for the dataset. An automated tool in Terrascan was used to perform the analysis. Vertical accuracy value reported as ASPRA-NSDDA accuracy(z)(95%) in m.
Automatic qualitative assessments were performed to gauge data completeness. Automatic qualitative assessments were performed to gauge absolute vertical accuracy. Automatic and visual qualitative assessments were performed to gauge relative vertical accuracy. The software packages utilized to perform the assessments were Terrascan, LP360 and Lastools.
Lidar was flown from aircraft to produce a point cloud. Points were identified (classified) by type.

This point cloud dataset was acquired with an Optech Orion M300 Airborne LiDAR Terrain Mapper with a nominal point spacing of 0.33 m. The spatial reference is the UTM Zone 5 North with NAD83 (PA11) as horizontal datum. The vertical datum is GRS80. Units are in meters. This point cloud data classified as follows: Class 0: Untouched, Class 1: Unclassified, Class 2: Ground, Class 3: Low Vegetation, Class 4: Medium Vegetation, Class 5: High Vegetation, Class 6: Building, Class 7: Low point, Class 9: Water, Class 17: Bridge Deck, Class 18: High Noise. The overlap and keypoint flags are also set. The data were acquired in the summer of 2015.
2
NOAA Office for Coastal Management received the files in LAS 1.4 PRDF6 format with UTM zone 5 NAD83(PA11) coordinates. Vertical values were in meters above the NAD83(PA11) ellipsoid. Horizontal coordinates were changed to geographic for ingest in the Digital Coast Data Access Viewer.
