2020 NOAA NGS Emergency Response Imagery: Hurricane Delta

Oblique and nadir imagery was acquired following Hurricane Delta in October 2020. The aerial photography missions were conducted by the NOAA Remote Sensing Division. The images were acquired from an altitude of 2500 to 5000 feet, using a Trimble Digital Sensor System (DSS).

This imagery was acquired by the NOAA Remote Sensing Division to support NOAA national security and emergency response requirements. This aerial imagery will primarily support NOAA interests including safety of navigation, HAZMAT and marine debris impacts, as well as impacts to coastal zone management interests. It is not intended for mapping, charting or navigation. In addition, it will be used for ongoing research efforts for testing and developing standards for airborne digital imagery.

The ground sample distance (GSD) for each pixel is 15 cm to 30 cm. In an effort to acquire imagery in a timely manner after the event, clouds may be present in the imagery. Be advised that the bounding coordinates reflect the extents of the images acquired for this event and do not imply full image coverage of the area.

These photographs were obtained for use by NGS during the course of its development of potential final products to fulfill its statutory mission. Although NGS is making these photographs available to others who may find the photographs of value, NGS does not warrant, endorse, or recommend the use of these photographs for any given purpose. Not all areas in AOI will be acquired. The focus will be collecting aerial imagery of coastal areas from Marsh Island, LA west to Galveston, TX including major waters and ports in between.

Users should be aware that temporal changes may have occurred since this data set was collected and some parts of this data may no longer represent actual surface conditions. Users should not use this data for critical applications without a full awareness of its limitations.

The accuracies have not been assessed. The absolute horizontal positions should be in the 3-5 meter range in areas with little or no topographic relief.

The horizontal positional accuracy and the assurance of that accuracy are dependent upon the accuracy of the data inputs to the rectification process.
