Data creation process 2005.
NPRWCH.shp (NAD_1983_Alaska_Albers)
The National Marine Fisheries Service revised (71 FR 38277, July 6, 2006) critical habitat for the northern right whale (Eubalaena glacialis) by designating areas in the Pacific Ocean, one in the Gulf of Alaska and another in the Bering Sea, which comprised approximately 95,325 square kilometers of marine habitat. This shapefile (NPRWCH.shp) was the original polygon data.
Subsequently, NMFS split the "northern right whale" listing into two separate listings under the ESA: North Pacific right whale (Eubalaena japonica) and North Atlantic right whale (Eubalaena glacialis) due to genetic findings.
Critical habitat was designated (73 FR 19000, April 8, 2008) for the North Pacific right whale (Eubalaena japonica), which was the same two areas, one in the Gulf of Alaska and another in the Bering Sea.
2005-10-28T00:00:00
The 2005 version NPRWCH.shp (NAD_1983_Alaska_Albers) was converted into the standardized feature class WhaleNorthPacificRight_20080408 (GCS_WGS_84 wkid 4326) using the National Critical Habitat Geodatabase processing protocol.
During standardization, geometry was not edited. Attributes were edited. Metadata was edited and populated using the final rule, source shapefile, and CFR.
