This layer shows coastal channels and waterways that are maintained and surveyed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. These channels are necessary transportation systems that serve economic and national security interests. The possibility of silting is always present. Local authorities should be consulted for the controlling depth. NOAA Charts frequently show controlling depths in a table, which is kept current by the U.S. Coast Guard Local Notice to Mariners.
To support ocean planning activities pursuant to the Executive Order Regarding the Ocean Policy to Advance the Economic, Security, and Environmental Interests of the United States, the Energy Policy Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Rivers and Harbors Act, and the Coastal Zone Management Act.

ChannelArea
The National Channel Framework (NCF) is an enterprise Geographic Information System (eGIS) database providing information about congressionally authorized navigation channels maintained by the US Army Corps of Engineers. This service includes channel details based on district-managed GIS polygons rather than on CAD-based linework, and is maintained through the eHydro hydrographic survey application. Details include reaches, channel areas, quarters, centerlines, and stationing.

2) Combine like channels into cohesive units. Combine intracoastal waterways into cohesive units.
3) In cases where no name is available, refer to Navigable Waterway Lines dataset and compare to find suitable name for waterway.
