These files contain bare earth rasterized topographic and bathymetric lidar elevations generated from data collected by a HawkEye II (HEII) lidar sensor. The HEII integrates topographic and bathymetric lidar sensors, and a digital camera on a single remote sensing platform for use in coastal mapping and charting activities. Data coverage generally extends along the CT, MA, ME, NH, RI coastline, from the waterline onshore 500m and offshore 1000 meters or to laser extinction. Native lidar data is not generally in a format accessible to most Geographical Information Systems (GIS). Specialized in-house and commercial software packages are used to process the native lidar data into 3D positions that can be imported into GIS software for visualization and further analysis. The 3D position data are sub-divided into a series of files, each covering approximately 5 kilometers of shoreline.
In addition to these bare earth Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data, the lidar point data that these DEM data were created from, are also available. These data are available for custom download at the link provided in the URL section of this metadata record.
These data were collected as a part of the National Coastal Mapping Program (NCMP) to depict the elevations above and below the water along the CT, MA, ME, NH, RI coastal zone.

The Data Access Viewer (DAV) allows a user to search for and download elevation, imagery, and land cover data for the coastal U.S. and its territories. The data, hosted by the NOAA Office for Coastal Management, can be customized and requested for free download through a checkout interface. An email provides a link to the customized data, while the original data set is available through a link within the viewer.

Topographic data provided in this file were tested against ground truth data. Tested 0.172 m fundamental vertical accuracy at 95 percent confidence level in open terrain using RMSEz x 1.9600.
Bathymetric data provided in this file were tested against crosslines and adjacent lines. At these locations the lidar data matched within 0.27 meters
The USACE collected, processed, and provided the data to the NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM). OCM received the data and processed it to be available for custom download from the Data Access Viewer (DAV) and for bulk download from https.

These files contain 1m bare earth grids created from the combined topographic and bathymetric datasets.
These data were collected using a HEII system. The system collects topographic lidar data at 64kHz, bathymetric lidar data at 4kHz and RGB imagery at 1Hz. Aircraft position, velocity and acceleration information are collected using an Applanix POS A/V 410. All raw data are processed using AHAB's Coastal Survey Studio (CSS) software. Aircraft position data are processed using POSPac software and the results are combined with the lidar data to produce 3-D positions for each lidar shot. Fledermaus and GreenC Solutions software is used to inspect and QA/QC data, and anomalous data are flagged as invalid.
Data are exported to LAS format using GreenC Solutions and imported to Terrascan for classification. Classified ground data are exported from Terrascan and Blue Marble Desktop converts all data from UTM to NAD83 geographic coordinates and NAVD88 heights using the Geoid 09 model.
1m grids are generated by QT Modeler with no interpolation greater than 30m from actual data. QT surfaces are then exported as 32-bit geotiff files. Geotiffs are imported to ArcGIS for final QA.

The NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM) received GeoTiff format files from USACE JALBTCX for the CT, MA, ME, NH, RI coastlines project area. The bare earth raster files were at a 1 m grid spacing. The data were in geographic NAD83 coordinates and NAVD88 (Geoid09) elevations in meters. OCM assigned the appropriate EPSG codes (Horiz - 4269, Vert - 5703) and copied the raster files to https for Digital Coast storage and provisioning purposes.
