Data Attributes

Attribute Summary

Rubric Score Primary Key? Name Type Description
100
Primary Key CATCH_KEY NUMBER Sequence number automatically generated by the system to uniquely identify each row in the table. Since these keys are not data dependent, if any element of data is changed, the link to the other tables in the system are not broken.Validation:Managed by the database. Each row in the table must have a unique value.
100
SPECIES_CODE_QUALIFIER VARCHAR2 Significant in the Pelagic Logbook only, it identifies the SHARK OTHER code as Pelagic when appropriate.Validation:None.The column is not mandatory and may be left empty.
100
SPECIES_CODE_NMFS VARCHAR2 Four digit NMFS code that identifies each species.
100
TOTAL_WHOLE_POUNDS NUMBER Total Whole (Round) Weight in Pounds to the nearest tenth of a pound. The value for this field is derived from the table FLS_CATCH_DESCRIPTIONS and it is the sum of all of the pounds for the corresponding rows in that table reported as whole pounds plus the gutted pounds converted to whole weight. The conversion factors are stored in the table FLS_SPECIES_RANGES.This process is necessary because the fishers may report the catch for the same species in both Gutted and Whole pounds.Validation:Information in this column or field must be numeric. The maximum and minimum value in this column are checked against data in the FLS_SPECIES_RANGES table and are provided by species. Each species may have a different value.
100
AREA_FISHED NUMBER Grid number that represents a body of water were fishing occurred.Validation:The code must be numeric and less than 4 digits long. This column is validated against FLS_AREA_FISHED_BY_STATE, which requires that the state code be obtained from the FLS_INT_LOCATIONS table where the Location Type is 'Landing Location' A foreign key could not be used because there is no state code in the catches table. This column is also mandatory, which means that it cannot be left empty.
100
GEAR_FISHED_KEY NUMBER A link to the Gear Fished table. This key establishes the relationship between the gear that was used during the fishing trip and the catch that was made using this gear. This key is used internally by the forms or screens and reports used to manipulate the data. It should not be necessary for the user to be familiar with this link.Validation:The foreign key enforces that the referenced record must be present in the gear table before it can be used in the catch record. In other words, a gear must have been described before it can be associated with catch informatin.
100
PRICE_PER_POUND NUMBER Price Per Pound
100
VALUE NUMBER Value
100
SIZE_CODE VARCHAR2 Size Code/Market Category (A coded item)
100
DEPTH NUMBER Depth Fish was Caught
